THE CHALLENGE
Pillowcase Volume Bottlenecking the Main Ironer
This Malaysian commercial laundry plant serves multiple hotel clients in a major tourist region. As their client base grew, pillowcase volume became a serious bottleneck:
- Main ironer overloaded: The 3.3m flatwork ironer was spending 40% of its operating time on pillowcases — wasting 60% of its ironing surface on each pass.
- Bed sheet backlog: During peak season, bed sheets had to wait while pillowcases occupied the main line, causing delivery delays to hotel clients.
- High energy cost: Running a full-width ironer for narrow pillowcases meant paying for 3x the steam consumption per piece compared to a right-sized solution.
- Labor pressure: Two operators were dedicated full-time to feeding pillowcases into the main ironer one by one.
The plant needed a way to process pillowcases independently without competing for main line capacity.
THE SOLUTION
HOZO HPT Pillowcase Ironer + SZD-1400 Folder
After evaluating several options including a second full-size ironer and third-party chest ironers, the client chose HOZO’s patented pillowcase ironing line — a dedicated system purpose-built for small piece processing.
Equipment installed:
- HPT-1400 Pillowcase Ironer — S-type dual-sided roller ironing at 1.4m width, processing both sides in a single pass. Steam heated at 0.4–0.6 MPa using the plant’s existing boiler — no infrastructure upgrade needed.
- SZD-1400 Cross-Fold Pillowcase Folder — Automatic cross-folding with counting and stacking. Connects directly to the ironer output for a fully inline workflow.

- 1.4m compact width fits in the available floor space without rearranging the existing line
- Uses only 180 kg/h steam vs 500+ kg/h for a chest ironer — 1/3 the energy cost per piece
